Mannesmann a brand name that stands for an entire industrial sector. For well over 100 years Mannesmann has been viewed worldwide as the epitome of seamless steel pipe and tube of the highest quality.
In 1886 company founders Reinhard and Max Mannesmann invented a process for the production of seamless steel tubes and pipes. This technical breakthrough had a decisive influence on further industrial development; seamless steel tubes and pipes make a host of cutting-edge technical processes and products both feasible and economical.
Since the 1960s it has been possible to produce seamless tubes and pipes out of stainless steel and nickel alloys. These can be used in aggressive environments dominated by high pressure, extreme temperatures, and/or special corrosive media (acid or lye).
In 1994 Mannesmannröhren Werke merged its seamless stainless steel tube and pipe activities in a joint venture with the successful businesses of the Italien Dalmine Group and French Vallourec. The shares were divided equally in thirds, with each individual company contributing over 100 years of tradition in this specialist field. This was the birth of DMV STAINLESS, an international joint venture company with European roots.
At the beginning of 2002 the shares of Dalmine were transferred to Mannesmannröhren-Werke, giving MRW 2/3 ownership of the company.
At the end of 2003 the shares of Vallourec were also bought by MRW. Since then DMV belongs 100% to MRW and is firmly imbedded in the Salzgitter Group.
Since the beginning of 2006 the new affiliation with the successful Salzgitter Group has also been reflected in the new company name: DMV STAINLESS was changed to Mannesmann DMV Stainless.
2008 marks the year of the fully visible integration into the Salzgitter group: Mannesmann DMV Stainless renames into Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes.
